       About the Workshop...

Susan (Labousier) Kickbush & Michelle Labousier are a mother/daughter team,

from New England. Susan founded the Florida Dance Workshop back in 1991with

Michelle in mind as her successor.   The  team worked together and soon, under the

direction of this dynamic duo, FDW quickly became recognized

as the area’s “forerunner in dance education”.

When the time was right, Michelle took over the school, allowing Susan to pursue

other areas of professional and educational interest.  Although Susan is a full time

Language Arts teacher at Murdock Middle School, she also finds time to run Drama

classes and keep an active role as the Workshop's Artistic Advisor, and Master Guest

Teacher.

Michelle, the Owner & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, instructs her

dance students, PERSONALLY.  Her services are rendered with experience,

skill, and professional integrity. Alumnae trained under the proven "Workshop"

curriculum, have been signed to contracts including those of professional "Broadway

Shows", "Television", “Disney World”,  “Eileen Ford Modeling”, and with international

touring  companies they performed in Italy with the Daniel Ezralow Company and on tour to

Malaysia for  “Gateway Theatrical Productions”. They have also been accepted to

world-renowned programs; including “Julliard”,  the "Joffrey", and “Alvin Ailey”.

Workshop dancers have also been awarded scholarships to high schools

such as the Walnut Hill School and colleges as well as New York City’s “STEPS”

and Broadway Dance Center”.   Many have gone on to teach, direct, or become

studio owners and college dance (and/or) performing arts majors.  FDW dancers

have performed as Disney Dancers, as part of the Tampa Bay Storm,

in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade,  with the Doobie Brothers, at the

Orange Bowl half-time, danced solos on Broadway, been cast in movies,

television, videos, musical stage productions, and with professional ballet

companies in Boston, Sarasota, Georgia, Philadelphia, throughout Europe, and

as far as China and the Netherlands.

It is our goal to make classes and rehearsals fun, but we are serious about

helping each child become his or her own personal best.  We teach that hard

work produces results and we help our dancers to achieve the genuine self-esteem

that comes with "mastery of technique". These important lessons also apply to life’s

future challenges. We believe in seeking, not perfection, but excellence from all

students, with the understanding that it be appropriate to their age level, ability, and

interest. Finally, Florida Dance Workshop will never aspire to be the biggest

school, but we will always strive to be the best!

   A little History…

Susan’s previous "Dance Workshops” date all the way back to 1968, and

continue to offer  a great deal to Massachusetts dancers, today.  This is, in fact,

the fourth school she founded. A special "membership" principle, the foundation

on which  these successful schools were built, enables Workshop students to

experience a personal sense of belonging. This key principal enables them to feel

uninhibited and comfortable enough to  express free-flowing creativity.

Many schools may boast huge enrollments or a large staff but here, at FDW, your child will benefit from a special experience, since the school’s Artistic Director, Michelle Labousier,  knows and works with all of her Workshop students “PERSONALLY”. Please peruse our website and feel free to visit and observe class anytime, but whether you enroll with us, or another program in our area, we urge you to choose the arts, for a life-long source of pleasure and pride.

Our Facility…

We have a huge, air-conditioned facility with two large studio rooms, custom mirrors, barres, and two comfortable "observation areas". Parents, and other adult family members and friends, are always welcome to quietly observe. We are located in the entire upper level of the building on US 41, across from Panda Inn, and Pizza Hut. We are upstairs from Hertz. Feel free to come by and visit.

Location

We are centrally located in a brand new facility in

Port Charlotte, on US 41.

OUR PROGRAMS...

Our regular term runs from August through June, and in

the summer we Also offer a popular

DANCEPOWER Summer Arts Program, in addition to

Summer Ballet Intensive and special

Dancer Conditioning courses.

We are also, currently, offering popular ZUMBA exercise courses.

See our CLASS SCHEDULE page for days/dates/times.

(Call for information about Zumba schedules.)

Our curriculum is offered to Tiny Tots, ages 2 1/2  through adult, for professional, as well as recreational application.   It is our goal to make every Workshop student  feel comfortable and worthwhile.  Proper dance training not only provides many physical and mental benefits, but it's a great deal of fun.

Although age may assist in initial placement, students advance according to ability. We hope you'll consider the FLORIDA DANCE WORKSHOP as the right place to venture  into the  “Wonderful World of Dance”!
