Dec 2018 Dance News: Parade & Party Week Info

Hi Workshop families!

The Christmas Parade is already here, Saturday Dec 8th starting at Charlotte High in Punta Gorda! Be sure to drop off your child at the High School with us, then park at The Event Center, there will be a bus running back and forth for transportation. Dance Company and Ovations dancers arrive at 10:30AM, other “older” dancers please arrive at 11:00AM, kids 7 & under please arrive 11:30AM. The parade starts at 12PM. The majority of our participants are excited to dance down the parade, but we will also have a “FLOAT” decoratedfor small children to ride in! Chaperones, please wear FDW colors; Red, Black or White!

This year we are SO EXCITED to include a full collection of Nutcracker costumes for our dancers ages 8+ to wear. All of the “parts” and costume assignments are in the pages to continue, please read carefully as each dancer has their name listed under their “part.” Costumes will be given out the week before the parade and a $5 costume rental fee will be added to your DSP account to be paid by Christmas break. Please return costumes and head pieces before Christmas break to be used in future years. Costumes may be adjusted to fit by safety pinning or hand stitching. Parents: PLEASE DROP OFF REFRESHMENTS AT THE STUDIO THIS WEEK.The refreshments will be waiting for us at the end of the parade route at The Event Center, so we will NOT be able to take them on the truck!The Chamber assigned us group number 31. The Florida Dance Company will be dressed inRED & SILVER.We are also looking for wagons for chaperones to store water in along the parade route.If you have one please let us knowor bring with you.Thank you!

Ovations and our Florida Dance Company had a fantastic time kicking off the holiday season performing at The Punta Gorda Tree Lighting, Veteran’s Parade and Deans South of the Border!We are looking forward to the parade and Guest performing in the Mistletoe Ball, fundraiser for the Homeless Coalition, as well as a Christmas performance at Faith Life Church.

December 17-19 is Party Week!The schedule of classes changes that week. Please see times below, you will be coming at a different time for that week only!During Party Week, wear dance clothes, you will be dancing!Anyone who would like to participate in the “Grab Gift “ exchange, simply bring in a $5-$7 gift, and be sure to sign your name so everyone will know who to thank.Girls bring for girls, guys for guys & your age!There will be food & fun too! All tuition and costumes must be paid in full by Dec. 15.We begin costume orders over the break.Your child’s costume cannot be ordered if tuition and costumes are not up to date!Thank you.

“Soliders”

FDW Costume: Red tank leotard, Red sequin skirt, with gold “solider” accents on leotard and epaulettes on shoulders, Black hat

Please provide your own: Tan tights (sold at FDW), black combat boot or KEDS style sneaker (preferably all black)

Hair: LOW BUN with part on the LEFT

Make up: “stage make up” PLUM colored eyeshadow, RED lipstick, RED circles on cheeks (see picture) Stickers will be given the day of for the cheeks

“Nutcracker Party Scene” (Christmas Tree, Sleigh, blocks, wrapped gifts, fabric decoration Nutcracker music for Ballet combos)

“Party Guests” (Act I of Nutcracker)

Costume: You will need to provide your own “costume” for this part, thus there is NO COSTUME FEE. Kids should be dresses in “old fashioned” party attire. Girls: petty coat dresses, bows, in hair. Boys: slacks and a vest with a button down. Boys will be given fake “swords” to “play fight” as in the ballet.

Hair: Down or Half up with curls & ribbons

Make up: glitter if desired for fun 🙂
